Goals and Dreams Fund

Launched in 1999 as a way for the players to give something back to the game they love, Goals & Dreams has donated full sets of equipment to over 7,000 underprivileged children in 17 countries. In addition, over 75 ice re-surfacers and more than 110 sets of boards and glass were provided to community arenas in small towns in Europe and North America. Funds were allocated on a pro-rated basis according to the nationalities of the NHLPA's membership.

Hockey equipment: 30 sets
Bruce Callow of Calgary, Alberta has lived in Costa Rica since 1992 working mainly as an educator and at the British Embassy . In addition to his "day job", Bruce began a hockey program called Mundo de Hockey in 1996 at a shopping mall using a synthetic skating surface. The program operated from three different locations around the capital city San Jose before closing. The National Hockey League Players’ Association’s Goals & Dreams fund contributed 30 sets of new equipment to the program. Bruce and Winnipeg native Kevin Darichuck teach ice hockey on real ice at the Castillo Club in the mountains of the province of Heredia, north of San Jose.
